Margolis, Max Leopold

Margolis, Max Leopold
(1886-1932)
   American biblical and Semitic scholar. He was born in Russia, and went to the US in 1889. He taught at the Hebrew Union College, and in 1897 went to the University of California at Berkeley to teach Semitic languages. He then returned to the Hebrew Union College, but resigned in 1910, to become professor of biblical philology at Dropsie College. He super-vised the translation of the Bible published by the Jewish Publication Society of America, and collabo-rated with Alexander Marx on the History of the Jewish People.
